Animal Communication

The other day I brought all four of my foster kittens into the vet to see if they would be cleared for (spay and neuter) surgeries. (In order to get out of foster care and go to the adoption center they need to be healthy and at least 2 pounds.) Two of them were cleared and two of them were going to come home with me for another round of medicines. On the car ride home with the two male kittens, one of them started to panic and tried to scratch through the cage as he frantically looked around for something. He was clearly very agitated. I was trying to pet him and speak in a soothing voice to calm him down. After about 10 minutes of this behavior I realized how confused he must be about getting split up from his brother and sister. In the same calm voice I explained that his brother and sister were safe. They were able to get their surgeries so they could go to the adoption facility. While at the adoption facility they will pick out wonderful new adoptive parents so they could live in a home that would make them happy for the rest of their lives. As I started saying this the little kitten, who had been flipping out, fell asleep! It was amazing to see such a response to the information I was giving. As soon as I said “you will not see them again, but they are safe”, his eyes became heavy and he leaned against my hand and feel asleep for the remainder of the car ride home.

Animals are very sensitive and they like to understand what’s going on. If you have an animal who is going into surgery, try explaining to them that they are safe, and after the surgery you will pick them up and take them home to recuperate.  If you have more than one pet, and one of them passes, explain to the living pet that the animal that has passed on will not be coming back, but they are now in a place where they are safe and happy.  Explaining situations to your animals can make a big difference to them. Animals are so closely connected to their human companions that they often feel it when you are not well. Many dogs can smell disease in humans (especially cancer), while some animals can sense when a person is about to pass away. You may already know that animals can sense an earth quake or other large natural disasters well before they happen. This was well documented when the tsunami hit years ago. Many animals has fled the area to get to higher ground, away from danger before it hit. Despite the fact that animals can sense these things, they may not fully understand what’s going on, or why the people around them react the way they do. You can help ease your pets stress by reassuring them everything will be ok. Next time you find yourself trying to calm down your animal companion and it’s not working, try to explain what’s going on in a simple way and see if it makes a difference.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Reiki Session

If emotions surface during the session, allow them to be expressed. If you need to cry or laugh, let it happen organically. To achieve best results, you can say to yourself before the session, "I accept this healing for my highest and greatest good."  This helps to get rid of any energy barriers you may be holding up that could interfere with the session. If you are spiritual, you can ask your guides and angels to be present during the healing.

After your session be sure to drink lots of water. Fresh squeezed lemon in your water is excellent for cleansing your body after a session. You can also help your body release more toxins by taking sea salt baths after a Reiki session. Results can be felt immediately, and with regular Reiki sessions, significant healing can take place.

Reiki Makes a Difference for Cancer Patients and Patients of Other Serious Illnesses

Scientific research is now confirming the benefits of Reiki on cancer patients. Reiki can help decrease anxiety, fatigue, depression, pain, nausea and help strengthen the immune system. With regular Reiki treatments many people have reported a decrease in the need for medication. Dr. Mehmet Oz is one of the leading cardiovascular surgeons in the United States, and he has welcomed the use of Reiki during his open heart surgeries and heart transplant operations in the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Centre in New York.  Many cancer and chronic pain patients report that Reiki greatly reduces their discomforts, soothes their emotions and aids in a faster recovery time. It can even leave the patient feeling empowered, after dealing with an illness that can cause them to feel such a loss of control.

This form of energy work is not meant to replace a patient’s treatment plan with their doctor, but can be used as a complimentary therapy. Like other eastern healing techniques, there are no negative side effects from Reiki. This is a wonderful compliment to other healing techniques such as acupuncture, massage therapy, guided imagery and yoga. Reiki reduces stress and research shows that people heal faster if they are in a lower state of stress.

Disease is seen as an energy blockage in the body, mind or spirit. The Reiki energy that is channeled works to alleviate the blockage by gently breaking it up and replacing it with universal life force energy to restore the body, mind and spirit back to balance. In addition to aiding the healing in a person,  Reiki can also help reduce unwanted symptoms and fears for people in their final stages of life, bringing about a sense of comfort during their transition. Results can be felt immediately from a Reiki session, and with regular Reiki sessions, significant healing can take place.

What to Expect During a Reiki Session

During a 60 minute, or a 30 minute, Reiki treatment, the client lies on a massage table fully clothed. It is best to take off your shoes and any large metal jewelry before the session. Choose loose-fitting clothing to wear on the day of your appointment. Usually the practitioner will play relaxing music in the treatment room, at a low level. Unlike massage, there is no manipulation of muscles or tissue.

The practitioner will ask the client what has been bothering them before beginning the session. The treatment then focuses on those issues identified by the client. During the session, the client lies quietly with eyes closed; there will be time for questions at the end of the session. The Reiki practitioner lightly places their hands above the chakras of the body to channel healing energy into the client. The practitioner will gently rest their hands on, or above, around 13 non-invasive locations on the front of the body, and around 10 non-invasive locations on the back of the body. The client starts out the session lying on their back, and after about 30 minutes, the client will be asked to roll onto their stomach for the remainder of the session. (In a 30 minute session, the client will remain on their back for the entire time.) Pregnant women will stay on their backs or side for their entire Reiki session.

The energy from the hands usually is felt as warmth. People report being able to “let go” of long-time pent up tensions during a session, allowing them to feel deeply relaxed. Many times the session is so relaxing that the client will fall asleep. Because Reiki energy flows to where it is most needed, there is a Reiki phenomenon called phantom hands that you may or may not experience. For example, you may be able to see that the healer's hands are actually placed on your shoulder, but you feel warmth, or a light touch on your foot. The client most often feels a deep sense of relaxation, peace, calmness and a greater clarity of mind, both during and after the treatment.

What is the Difference Between Reiki and Shamballa?

Shamballa and Reiki are in the same "energy family," and they can be used together in a healing session.  Shamballa is a newer, higher energy vibration than Reiki.  It is important to know that Shamballa is not a "better" healing tool, rather it is a different frequency.  Both vibrations can achieve very high levels of healing.   Shamballa has been described as an extension of Reiki.  Reiki brings about direct healing, while Shamballa is considered to expand your consciousness, thus bringing about healing.  Some people may feel more drawn to Reiki, while others may be more attracted to Shamballa. You should listen to your intuition when trying to figure out what modality to try.  You can't go wrong; both of them will bring you positive results.

Unlike western medicine, these modalities do not have negative side effects.  The energy of Shamballa is much stronger than Reiki, and the person receiving should be at least familiar with energy healing before trying Shamballa.  The attunement in Level One of Shamballa (for the practitioner) is said to be equal to the attunement in the Master Level of Reiki.  There are around 250 additional symbols for the practitioner to use in Shamballa than in Reiki.  In both healing modalities the practitioner needs to get permission from the client (verbally or on a psychic level) before sending them the healing.

It is not necessary to believe in either Shamballa or Reiki in order to see the results.  They both release blockages and negative energy from our bodies and our souls that we no longer need on a mental, emotional and physical level.  Both healing modalities can help a client to progress on their spiritual life path.  Shamballa is easier for the practitioner to practice since there is less preparation before a session and the energy flows faster, so sessions are not as long.  Usually a 30 minute Shamballa session is sufficient, where an hour session is recommended with Reiki .  These modalities should always be used for enlightenment and healing.  If you have not experienced the energy of Reiki or of Shamballa, an introductive first session with Reiki might be the natural progression, before you try Shamballa.  The healing energy of either one will bring the effects of positive energy to your whole being.

Suggestions for Giving Reiki to Children with Autism

Find an environment that the child finds comforting such as a treatment room, bedroom or playroom. This may not be a traditional healing environment. The child should be allowed to do whatever he wants in order to feel relaxed, safe and happy. Scan the child's energy to find any energy disturbances that may need attention. Say to your self silently, "It is my intention to channel Reiki (universal life force energy) to ___(child's name here)_______ for his/her highest and greatest good, starting right now". Visualize the Reiki energy flowing through your crown chakra, through your heart chakra and out of the secondary chakras in the palms of your hands. This will infuse the child with Reiki energy to heal any blockages in the energy field.

Try to go through the first 8 standard Reiki hand positions on the head to infuse the child's head with Reiki. These positions will improve the child's brain function, free up the child's challenges with expressing them self and improve the child's handling of their thoughts and emotions.
Try to work through the rest of the standard Reiki hand positions on the front and back of the body. Some of the benefits from working on these areas include helping them deal with burdens, lack of inner strength and washing away anxieties.

It is very important for the child to be well hydrated so that the "stuff" being released keeps moving through them for the days after the session. Fresh squeezed lemon in their water will help detox them even faster. Reiki actually physically detoxes the body. Without water to help move along the detoxing the released energy and toxins may not move out as quickly as one may want them to move. This could cause discomfort and achy feelings in the body similar to a common cold. Another way to detox is a sea salt bath. The sea salts will actually help detox your aura field.

If the child will not sit still you can simply sit near them with your open hands facing them and say "It is my intention to channel Reiki (universal life force energy) to ___(child's name here)_____ for his/her highest and greatest good, starting right now". The energy will still channel to them even if your hands are not touching them. You can also place your hands on their shoulders or hold their hand while watching TV and channel the energy to them. A Reiki session may have best results if the child lays on a massage table and you go through all of the standard hand positions, but by sending them Reiki with these other techniques you are still giving a powerful gift. The results will still be apparent even without touching them.

Usually your hands will warm up or you will feel pulsing from the energy. You will know when the session is over when the sensations in your hands subside. You can also set a timer and simply run the Reiki for 30 minutes or 60 minutes until you get in tune with the feeling of the Reiki running through you. When the session is over, clap your hands together to break the healing connection, and run your hands under cold water.
Regularly scheduled Reiki treatments will have the best results for your child. They may not understand what a huge gift Reiki is for them, but they don't need to understand in order for the results to occur.

Understanding Reiki's Relationship to the Chakras

In order to fully understand Reiki, you must understand the function of the chakras.  Chakra is the Sanskrit word meaning "wheel.".  It can also be translated to "wheel of light.".  We all have 7 main chakras that will be explained in depth below.  (Even animals have 7 main chakras.)

Physical problems can be from a blockage in the energy flow of the chakras, and this can cause the organs to function less than optimally.  The chakras are connected to all of the organs in the body and all seven layers of the aura.  There are also secondary chakras such as the ears, eyes, palm of hands and many more.  Everyone has chakras, and they function best when they are cleared of energetic debris, fully open and balanced.  The chakras always stay rooted in their proper area of the body, but they can get out of balance for many reasons.  They are a crucial part of our body's energy network.

When a Reiki practitioner is channeling energy, they place their hands over the 7 main chakras of the client to guide them in initiating healing.  The flow of energy during a Reiki session comes in through the practitioner's Crown chakra, down through the Third Eye chakra,  Throat chakra and Heart chakra, through the arms and out the palms of the hands to be received by the client.

The Root chakra grounds and connects us to the earth, and controls our feelings on survival.  When in balance, the root chakra helps us to feel a sense of belonging and a sense of deserving to be here.  The root chakra focuses on our basic human needs like food, shelter, and water.  When we are not getting these in our lives, the chakra may fall out of balance.  This chakra is also associated with the fight or flight instinct and is associated with the large intestine, rectum, kidneys and adrenal gland.

The Sacral chakra is sometimes called the sexual chakra, as it is connected to the sexual organs and feelings of pleasure, emotions and sexuality.  When in perfect balance, this chakra allows us to feel abundant and deserving of pleasure in all areas of our lives. When out of balance, feelings of anger and apathy can surface. This chakra is associated with the reproductive system,- the testicles and ovaries, and the urinary system-bladder and kidneys.

The Solar Plexus chakra is associated with our personal sense of power, will and sense of self.  We feel centered, worthy of good things in our lives and in control of our actions, when this chakra is in balance.  When out of balance greed, obesity and fear can surface.  This chakra is the place that helps empower us to recognize our inner strength and helps us to pursue our goals.  The solar plexus is also in charge of digestion and is associated with the liver, gall bladder, stomach, pancreas, spleen and the small intestine.

The Heart chakra is a center of love, compassion and empathy towards ourselves and others.  Sitting in the middle of the chakras, it is referred to as the connector which bridges “above and below” or “heaven and earth.”   When in balance, this center allows us to love our lives from a peaceful, understanding, caring place;, connecting us to others, our surroundings, and the universe.  When out of balance, passivity and laziness can become present.  It is also in charge of the immune system and is associated with the heart and the thyroid gland.

The Throat chakra is the energy center of truth, creativity and communication, helping us to speak our truth in an authentic way as we live our lives.  When in balance, we are able to carefully consider our words and their effect on others.  If out of balance, jealousy, or wrongly used power can surface.  This center is also in charge of metabolism and relates to the lungs and the throat.

The Third Eye chakra is our inner eye, imagination and intuition.  When in balance this chakra helps guide us with an inner knowing. This chakra reminds us that we already have all of the answers to our questions, and we just need to be in tune with our own inner wisdom.  When out of balance, pride, arrogance, panic and depression may become an issue.  This chakra also influences growth and hormones and is associated with the brain, face, nose, eyes and pituitary gland.

The Crown chakra is the center for unity, freedom, understanding and consciousness.  When this chakra is balanced, we are grounded in our bodies and we are able to accept the changes around us.  This chakra helps us to connect to our inner voice guiding us along the way and is associated with the whole being.  If out of balance, we may experience diseases of the muscular system, skeletal system and the skin, as well as chronic exhaustion not associated with physical ailments, or a sensitivity to light, sound and/or environment.  This chakra is a portal for healing and our connection to the universe.

By understanding the meaning of each of the chakras, you are able to gain a deeper understanding of your personal health.  Reiki can re-balance the chakras to help regain optimum health and overall wellness.  As we progress spiritually, the health of the chakras awaken the expansion and development of the aura bringing us to our highest potential in life.  Often during a Reiki session a client will feel more energy (usually in the form of heat) indicating to them that the chakra, which the practitioner's hands are over, was depleted of energy and is soaking in more new energy in the effort to re-balance.  So next time you have a Reiki session pay attention to the chakras where you feel more movement or heat during the session and refer back to these chakra definitions to understand where you body needed more support.

"Small is the number that see with their own eyes and feel with their own hearts."

One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates the mysteries of eternity; of life; of the marvelous structure of reality."

-Albert Einstein

During a session with a Reiki practitioner, energy channels through the practitioner’s hands to the client. The hands are placed gently on or above the energy chakras of the body (similar to the energy centers treated with acupuncture).

For the best results it is helpful to walk into a Reiki appointment open minded and well rested. Share with your practitioner any issues you have been dealing with. These issues can be physical, mental, spiritual or emotional.  Breathe deeply and calmly during your session. Many people neglect to take deep breaths during a session, but feel free to let out a loud exhale or inhale if you feel drawn to do so.

Trust the person giving you the energy healing session (if you have already identified their credentials before the session begins). You don't need to "help" the practitioner during the session if they place their hands under your head or back; just relax your muscles and let the practitioner do all the work.
