What is Reiki?

Reiki is pronounced 'Ray-Key'. 'Rei' means 'soul', 'Ki' 'energy'. Reiki practitioners channel universal life force energy, or chi, to heal and harmonize the body. The energy is channeled through the healer's hands to the client. It is a gentle but powerful form of energy medicine. Chi is the term referring to the underlying force of the universe. Reiki seeks to restore balance to the body and brings about deep relaxation, destroys energy blockages, detoxifies the system, provides new vitality, strengthens the immune system, reduces stress and benefits chronic and acute medical conditions. It is important to note that Reiki is always used for the higher good of the client. The intention is always to help the client by sending healing where it is needed. The client does not need to believe in Reiki for it to work. Reiki has helped people become more aware of their thought pattens and recognize their core beliefs. Reiki is the fastest-growing complementary modality in America right now. It is so relaxing that one hour of Reiki feels equivalent to four hours of sleep.

How does Reiki work?

When one's ki, prana or chi (life force) is blocked, sickness can develop in the body. Life force energy nourishes the organs and cells of the body, supporting them in their vital functions. When the flow is disrupted, it causes diminished function in one or more of the organs of the physical body. The giving of life force energy, through Reiki, helps to break up blockages, stimulating healing energy to again flow freely through the person's body. Some researchers say that the deep state of relaxation a Reiki session induces may trigger the release of endorphins (the body's natural painkillers). Many people who have experienced a Reiki session report that it helps to clear the mind and create a heightened sense of awareness during and after the session. A Reiki session may help some people to release pent-up emotions and relieve stress. Since stress often is an underlying cause of illness, the release of stress during the Reiki session leads to better overall health.

How can Reiki help my emotional wellness?

The life force energy we are composed of, is responsive to our thoughts and feelings. Our balance can become disrupted when we (consciously or unconsciously) have negative thoughts or feelings. Unhealthy thoughts can deplete our energy field and cause a disruption in the flow of the energy system. This can eventually diminish the function of the organs and cells of the physical body. Reiki works to replenish the areas that have been depleted to restore balance, assisting in mental and physical health. People have said that Reiki has helped them with emotional upset associated with the loss of a loved one, divorce, serious illness, intrusive medical procedures, neglect, sexual abuse, mental abuse, verbal abuse and physical abuse.

Reiki has the capability to send energy back to the source, or origin, when the issue began with the “distant healing” symbol. This can be very beneficial in moving along the healing process, and speeding up the release of unwanted emotional baggage. There is also a symbol in Reiki called the “mental and emotional healing” symbol. Most practitioners use this symbol in every session to achieve best results for their client.

Are Reiki and Therapeutic Touch the same thing?

Reiki is very similar to Therapeutic Touch. One is not better than the other. Both energy therapies produce consistent and reliable results.  In Reiki there are attunements that the healer goes through at each level to further open them up to channel more energy to the animal. There are no attunements in Therapeutic Touch. Both practitioners need to go through training, but unlike Reiki, Therapeutic Touch practitioners do not have to wait a certain amount of time between training courses. Reiki practitioners must wait at least a year to excel from level two to Master level. Even then they need to be invited by the teacher to get into the Master level class. Therapeutic Touch was developed by an R.N., and was originally developed for those in the medical field. Reiki was re-discovered by Buddhist monk in the early 1900's, and he trained people to heal themselves and others.

What are the side effects?

This modality is safe and noninvasive. Reiki is always working to help the client in a positive way. It is safe for all ages including premature babies, the elderly and dying. There are not negative side effects like a prescribed western medication may give you. It is best to drink a lot of water after a session since your body will continue to flush toxins from the healing session. If you do not drink enough water it is possible that your body may feel aches from the release of toxins. If this does happen, you can take a sea salt bath and this will help cleanse your aura and gently help your physical body detox. If you do experience this reaction it is usually very brief.

Energy healing sessions are available in person and in the form of absentee healings.
