When you’re dealing with guilt, it can be suffocating!
If you’re a person who automatically blames yourself every time something goes wrong, that kind of patterning can make you feel like you’ll be stuck in the cycle forever.
Guilt is designed to distract you from your awareness.
When you are feeling guilt (or even shame, blame, worry or regret), it’s like those emotions are a blanket that cover up your ability to clearly see what’s going on around you.
They are “distracting” you from what’s REALLY going on all around you.
As many of you know I’m Greek, and that means I have a (un-official) masters in guilt from life experience.
Have you ever heard of Greek Guilt?
You know, the deep guilt that is so bad that you start to feel guilty for NOT feeling guilty about something. Yes….that kind of guilt. (so silly, right?!?)
Right now where I stand, I no longer have any guilt in my life.
In fact, now I can see guilt a mile away, and I now have that space to choose to allow it in or not. (of course I choose to NOT let it in.)
I am no longer suffocating underneath the blanket of those limiting emotions, and let me tell you, the view from here is wonderful!
You may think it’s really hard and it takes a lot of work to remove guilt from you life, but what if it didn’t have to be hard?
There is one simple question that I asked myself every time guilt surfaced in my life, and when I asked this question, it was like the blanket of suffocating guilt was lifted, and I could see clearly again.
