This scared the ish out of me!

Lately, I’ve noticed a BIG trend within my 1:1 coaching calls.

I’m hearing over and over again that you’re stressed out and overwhelmed.

You feel like there isn’t enough time in a day and that you’re struggling to find a balance in your career and family life, right?

I’ve been there too!

Not only have I been in those uncomfortable shoes; I know the way to slip into much more comfortable shoes.

14 years ago I was challenged like never before.

I was at my very lowest point and I felt like I couldn’t possibly go any further into pain, burnt out and overwhelm.

The anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the world trade centers in NYC was just one week ago and I feel inspired to tell you about how that forever changed my life in a good way.

While I know a lot of you reading this are familiar with my story, please keep reading anyway because I’m going to share some things I’ve never shared before.

I had just moved to NYC a few days before 9/11.

Before the attack, I was happy, healthy and living the life of my dreams while pursuing a professional classical dancing career in NYC… the epicenter for the performing arts!

I remember the morning of the attacks, I went back to my apartment and from the 20th floor we watched the smoking buildings a few miles away.

We didn’t know what would happen next and we tried not to panic.

I remember how still that day was.

It was almost quiet outside in a city that was usually loud and moving fast.

It was the quiet before my storm.

Fast forward three months.

I had developed chronic debilitating pain in my feet that was so bad it actually gave me migraines that lasts for a week. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and my asthma was off the charts terrible.

I had to stop dancing cold turkey.

I started seeing many doctors, all over the country, because no one understood why I was in pain or where the pain originated.

This is very typical for highly sensitive or Empath people.

We frequently have strange health issues that doctors can’t explain.

If you’re highly sensitive, you’re probably highly symptomatic. This isn’t because you have more problems than other people, it’s because you’re aware of EVERYTING that’s going on in your body. Others don’t notice subtleties like you do.

When I found out I was an Empath, that was the moment that changed everything for me.

It all clicked and I could finally understand why I was so sensitive to everything.

If you’re an Empath, you’re in good company. 20% of the world’s population is composed of Highly Sensitive People.

We pick up on the thoughts, feelings and emotions of everyone around us and often have trouble differentiating whether they were ours or someone else’s.

As you can imagine, there was trauma, pain, suffering, upset, death and chaos all around me.

My body was absorbing all of it.

I call this being an emotional sponge.

You do not want to be an emotional sponge because it doesn’t actually help anyone; it only harms you as you take on everyone else’s discomfort, unhappiness and discontent.

At this point in my life, I knew something needed to change.

I was sick and tired of being sick and tired.

I made a choice to change my life and I choose health instead of this pain and suffering.

My formula to get well was a combination of three things.

  1. I changed my mindset
  2. Daily energy healing treatments
  3. Went to a master herbalist (TCM)

I was actually improving for the first time!

I was quickly starting to regain my energy, feel happier and I weaned myself off of all my western medications. (I’m still free of western medications to this day).

Doctors couldn’t believe my recovery. They didn’t think it was possible, but I knew something else was possible.

As I furthered my training, I took 51 continuing education classes (Yes, I just counted them recently…) so that I could learn all that was possible and help other people get un-stuck too.

I threw myself into every kind of certification course I could find so that I could learn everything about Empaths and how to create a thriving life.

I learned more tools than I could ever count through all of the courses I took within the past decade.

Those tools allowed me to become what I like to call an Empowered Empath.

I now realize that if I had the tools I have now, and I went through that same experience of being in NYC during the terrorist attacks… this time around I wouldn’t get sick.

Knowing what I know now has empowered me to no longer slip into the loop of burnout, recuperate, burnout, recuperate repeat.

Now, I know I can handle anything that life brings my way.

I can be next to a severely depressed person and no longer feel like it may rub off on me.

When I go to a family party I can leave feeling filled up instead of being depleted.

I no longer need to go through a huge routine of protecting my energy every morning before I leave the house.

Maintaining a place of moderation is my new norm.

I don’t go into extreme emotional highs and lows anymore.

Being empowered as a highly sensitive people wasn’t easy for me.

I did the work and I put in the time.

I learned all of the very best skills and I threw out the tools that don’t work.

My personal mission is to give highly sensitive women who are overwhelmed and stressed, the tools to find their inner calm.

Like I said earlier… I’ve been in your shoes. I know what it’s like to have so much to offer the world but be debilitated by your sensitivities.

You don’t have to be best friends with overwhelm and stress anymore. I know how to remove them from your life because I’ve done it myself.

    Thank you so much!!
    I so needed this reminder.
    We all want to be who we are without judgements so we must give what we want to receive.
    I was little surprised when I saw the title of this video because this is a real issue. Now I know that there are others who experience the same frustrations. And I can be more patient with myself as I try to grow in my understanding of self and others! 🙂
